Amended in the 1st Center of the Humanities and Social Sciences Meeting of the 2017 academic year on August 30th, 2018

Clause 1: General Principles>

Article 1: This article is established according to Clause 2 Article 6 of National Sun Yat-sen University’s Organization Regulations.
Article 2: The research center is named “National Sun Yat-sen Center for the Humanities and Social Sciences” (abbreviated as “the research center” below). The research center is established by the university as a first rate research center.
Article 3: The foci of the research center are as below. The first, to promote national and international collaboration, therefore universalizing humanities and social sciences research. The second, to strengthen the university’s international research collaborations and relations. The third, to promote humanities and social sciences research exchange within southeast Asia. The fourth, is to aid the visibility and development of English language lectures in humanities and social sciences within the university. The fifth, to provide a platform for research exchange of humanities and social sciences in southern Taiwan.
Clause 2: Organization and Management
Article 4: The research center will establish an academic sector and an administrative sector, separately responsible for projects, publication, promotion and communication, and collaboration with national research institutes, academics, and experts.
Clause 3: Budgeting and Allocation
Article 5: Within the research center the director will manage and organize affairs. The director will be a selected professor or researcher within related fields who is referred by the dean of the college and approved by the university president. The director is appointed concurrently with the dean and has a same term period. When a director’s term is over or if a director steps down the director is expected to appoint the next director with the university president’s approval. The director’s previous evaluation results serve as reference qualifications for the next consecutive term. The university’s research sector will execute cancellation of the center with approval from the university president in the case of three months without completing appointment of a director.
Article 6: The research center is divided into the academic sector and the administration sector. Each sector is lead by a full-time professor referred by the director and approved by the university president.
Article 7: The research center has established an academic advisory board for the purpose of promoting international research across universities through appointing experts and researchers and providing research funding from research projects
Article 8: The research center arranges tasks for research development, professors and advisors from within and outside the university in humanities and social sciences are implemented as faculty through the director to establish an advisory board for reviews and evaluation. The board members within the university are not given employment while the board members from off campus are given attendance fees and transportation fees.
Article 9: The research center will have two administrative assistants to process the paperwork and accounts, hold conferences and projects, and to coordinate, communicate, and organize the tasks and results that have been executed.
Article 10: The research center’s accounts and approval, checks and balances, execution, and safekeeping of finances will be executed according to university regulations. The finances are self-provided by the research center.
Clause 4: Meetings and Assembly
Article 11: When the research center is executing duties such as research projects and administrative obligations the center will hold regular compulsory meetings for budgeting considerations, progress updates, performance evaluations, and development and promotion of the center. The meeting will be arranged by the director, deputy director, and head of each sector of the research center with the director as moderator. The research center is also obligated to hold intermittent research meetings and work meetings.
Article 12: The research center will regularly arrange for consultation from the advisory board. The director will be responsible for the congregation of the meeting and other meetings when necessary.
Clause 5: Supplementary Clauses
Article 13: The research center is obligated to submit annual performance and progress reports.
Article 14: The research center is obligated to conduct self-evaluation and accept evaluation from the university annually. The terms and procedures for evaluation will be conducted according to relevant regulations.
Article 15: Regulations for the research center including operations, management, self-evaluation, assembly, and project development are separately established.
Article 16: These regulations and amendments have been passed by the Center of the Humanities and Social Sciences committee and will be implemented once approved by the president of the university.
