WE now live in a world of systems, and art in the epoch of social systems looks at that and takes its part in it. These systems include what I call “exercise machines”— the self-realization practices, or exercises, by which human beings are formed into human beings. This talk looks at what we may then call “art with humans.” It provides examples of such an art with humans by way of recent fiction and film, such as Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Never Let Me Go and Wang Kar-wai’s film Grandmaster.
